[Botany • 2025] Impatiens rajibiana (Balsaminaceae) • A New Species from Arunachal Pradesh, India

Abstract
Impatiens rajibiana, a new species of Balsaminaceae, is described herewith, along with detailed illustrations, from Western Arunachal Pradesh, India. It is distinguished by its solitary-flowered inflorescence, a long, horn-shaped auricle on the basal lobe of the lateral united petals, and a filiform, down-curved spur of the lower sepal with a bulbous apex. The species is, so far, known only from Arunachal Pradesh and represents a significant addition to the biodiversity of the Eastern Himalayas.

Impatiens rajibiana Chowlu, Borah, & A.Shenoy, sp. nov.

Etymology: The plant is named in honour of Dr. Rajib Gogoi of the Botanical Survey of India, in recognition of his significant contributions to the understanding of the family Balsaminaceae in the Indian Himalayas, including Northeast India, as well as for his outstanding work on Rhododendron and the Flora of Sikkim.
