[Botany • 2024] Curcuma ungmensis (Zingiberaceae) • A New Species from Nagaland, North-East India

Abstract
Curcuma ungmensis M.Sabu, Hareesh and P.Tiatemsu sp. nov. from Mokokchung district of Nagaland state, India is described here. The new species shows affinities towards C. inodora but distinct in many attributes. Detailed description and distribution are provided along with colour photographs of the new species for easy identification.

[Botany • 2020] Hedychium mechukanum (Zingiberaceae) • A New Species from the eastern Himalayas, India

ABSTRACT
 The new species Hedychium mechukanum M.Sabu & Hareesh is described from Arunachal Pradesh, India. It shows similarities to Hedychium urophyllum G.Lodd., H. coronarium J.Koenig, H. flavum Roxb. and H. chrysoleucum Hook. from Northeast India, and to H. qingchengense Z.Y.Zhu from China. A detailed description along with colour photographs are provided for ease of identification.

Hedychium mechukanum M.Sabu & Hareesh sp. nov.

The new species is morphologically similar to Hedychium urophyllum but differs from the latter in having glabrous ligules, larger flowers, labellum which is white and yellow-tinged towards the base, glabrous calyx, internally glabrous corolla tube, and longer stamens (see Table 1).

Etymology. The specific epithet of the new taxon comes from the name of a small town, Mechuka, which borders China at about 1850 m above sea level in Shi-Yomi District of Arunachal Pradesh. This taxon was collected from the Mechuka valley on the way to Mechuka from Along.

Detailed descriptions, distribution, and ecological information, along with colour photographs and key to the closely related species, are provided for identification of the species.

[Botany • 2020] Rediscovery of Globba andersonii and Three New Synonymies in Indian Zingiberaceae




ABSTRACT
Based on detailed studies of the protologues, types, herbarium and comparison with live specimens, Caulokaempferia dinabandhuensis Biseshwori & Bipin, Globba teesta S. Nirola & A.P. Das and Zingiber sianginensis Tatum & A.K. Das are reduced under Monolophus suksathanii S. Dey, Langhu & Bhaumik, G. andersonii C.B. Clarke ex Baker and Z. officinale Roscoe, respectively. In addition, Globba andersonii is rediscovered after a gap of 136 years. A detailed description and color photographs of G. andersonii are provided for ease of understanding.

Abstract
Amomum arunachalense Hareesh & M. Sabu sp. nova (Zingiberaceae) is described from Arunachal Pradesh, northeastern India. It is similar to A. maximum, but differs from the latter by having a white rhizome with a pale brown center, an entire ligule, a labellum without lateral staminodes, an obtuse stamen crest and a non-winged, foveolate fruit. A detailed description of the plants along with photographs are provided.

 ABSTRACT
Hedyotis indirae, a new shrubby species of Rubiaceae from Muthikulam forest of Palakkad district, Kerala is described and illustrated here. The species shows similarities with its closely allied taxa H. hirsutissima and H. beddomei, but differs in many qualitative attributes. Detailed description, phenology and distribution notes are provided along with photographs.

Abstract
A new species, Peucedanum pradeepianum KMP Kumar, Hareesh & Indu sp. nov. from Western Ghats of Kerala, is described and illustrated. The new species is closely related to P. anamallayense and P. dhana var. dhana, but differs in having deeply serrate leaflets, broadly ovate bract, ovate-lanceolate, acute bracteoles, and 3–4 lateral and 4 commissural vittae.

Abstract
Two new balsams (Impatiens), Impatiens tirbinensis and I. shiyomiensis are described from Arunachal Pradesh, India. Species shows affinities towards I. drepanophora and I. rugosipetala but distinct in many attributes. Detailed descriptions, distribution, ecology and colour photographs of the new species are provided along with the comparison of I. drepanophora.

[Botany • 2018] Boeica clarkei (Gesneriaceae) • A New Species from northeastern India

Abstract
Boeica clarkei, a new species is described from Arunachal Pradesh, northeastern India. This novelity resemble B. porosa but differ in having corolla externally pubescent, an inconspicuous disc and transversely dehiscing anthers. From B. multinervia it differs in being pubescent rather than woolly, and in having only 8–12 paired lateral leaf veins, only ca 1 mm long corolla tube, and longer lip lobes. A detailed description along with colour photographs, distribution, conservation status and a key to the Indian species of Boeica are provided.

Spiradiclis cavicola L. Wu, Hareesh & B. Pan, a new species from limestone caves in Guizhou and Guangxi province, southwestern China, is described and illustrated. This species which is morphologically similar to S. scabrida, can be easily distinguished from the latter by its petiole 0.5–3 cm long, leaf blade elliptic to oblong, and flower homostylous that with anthers and stigma are positioned at the throat of corolla tube or sometimes stigma slightly above anthers. The detailed morphological characters together with illustrations, diagnostic comparisons and habitat etc. are presented.

ABSTRACT
Acranthera hoangii Hareesh & T.A. Le (Rubiaceae) is described as a new species from Vietnam. The new species shows similarities with A. longipes, but shows significant differences in its densely pubescent shoot and petiole, larger flowers, five-nerved calyx lobes and ribbed ovary.

[Botany • 2018] Disporum mishmiensis (Colchicaceae) • A New Species from North East India

Abstract
Disporum mishmiensis, sp. nov. is described from Arunachal Pradesh, north-eastern India. A detailed description and colour photographs of D. leucanthum are provided to aid identification. A distribution map, notes on ecology and a key to Indian species are provided.

Disporum mishmiensis Hareesh & M.Sabu, sp. nov. 

 Disporum mishmiensis is similar to D. leucanthum but differs from it in having a campanulate perigone with pink tepals that are 2.7–3 cm (vs 1.2–2 cm), filaments 14–16 mm long (vs 8–15 mm), a style 16–18 mm long (vs 6–12 mm), and a non-stoloniferous/rhizomatous growth habit.

Etymology. The name mishmiensis denotes the type locality, Mishmi Hills which is a part of the eastern hills of Arunachal Pradesh adjacent to Myanmar

Abstract
 Thismia is a mycoheterotrophic genus in the family Thismiaceae. We report a new family record for Andaman and Nicobar Islands and a new species for India. A detailed description along with conservation assessment, colour photos, distribution map, and key to the species from India are provided.

Thismia aurantiaca Hareesh & M.Sabu, sp. nov. 

This species is similar to T. rodwayi but differs from the latter in having outer perianth lobes 5 times larger than inner perianth lobes (vs sub-equal), broadly triangular recurved outer perianth lobes (vs spathulate, up-curved) and inner perianth lobes with minute 0.5 mm long, erect mitre (vs well developed more than 1 mm long, bent and inter locking mitre).

 Type: M. Sabu & V.S. Hareesh 152774 (holo CALI; iso CAL, PBL), India, Andaman Islands, South Andaman, Mount Harriet National Park, elevation ± 320 m, 7 Aug. 2017. 

Etymology. The name ‘aurantiaca’ denotes the orange coloured flower of the plant.

Habitat & Ecology — So far, we could observe three populations with around 18 individuals each in the evergreen forest patches of Mount Harriet National Park, South Andaman. The plants are growing in a damp habitat in the understory of evergreen forest in association with Amomum andamanicum V.P.Thomas, Dan & M.Sabu (Zingiberaceae), Dipterocarpus sp. and Hopea sp. (Dipterocarpaceae), Phrynium sp. (Marantaceae), Malaxis sp. (Orchidaceae).
