[Herpetology • 2025] Gekko prep • A New Species of Gekko (Subgenus Japonigekko) (Squamata: Gekkonidae) from Hainan, China

Abstract
Hainan Province harbors one of the richest gekkonid faunas in China, currently comprising three species from the subgenus Japonigekko. A recent reptile survey in Hainan province suggests that the diversity of gekkonid species may be significantly underestimated. During fieldwork in Bawangling National Park, we discovered a dark green gecko. Based on both morphological and molecular evidence, this gecko is distinct from all known species and is therefore described here as a new species: Gekko prep sp. nov.

Abstract

A new gomphid species, named as Gomphidictinus tongi sp. nov. (Holotype male, Mt. Diaoluoshan, altitude 930m a.s.l., Lingshui County, Hainan Province, China) is described here. It is regarded as the third species of Gomphidictinus based on the presence of the basal spine on median segment of the penis organ. Gomphidia interruptistria Zha, Zhang & Zheng, 2005 is regarded as a junior synonym of Gomphidictinus perakensis (Laidlaw, 1902), which is recorded from Yunnan, China.

[Fungi • 2017] Ceriporia albomellea • A New Species (Phanerochaetaceae, Basidiomycota) from Tropical China based on Morphological and Molecular Evidence

Abstract

A new polypore, Ceriporia albomellea, collected from tropical China, is described and illustrated based on morphological characteristics and molecular evidence. It is characterized by thin, resupinate basidiome with a white subiculum, cottony margin, white to cinnamon-buff pores, clavate cystidia and oblong-ellipsoid basidiospores measured as 3.1–3.8 × 1.7–2 µm. Phylogenetic analysis based on the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions and nuclear large subunit (nLSU) ribosomal RNA gene regions supported C. albomellea as a distinctive species belonging to Ceriporia.

Diagnosis.— Differs from other Ceriporia species by thin, resupinate basidiome with a white subiculum, cottony margin, white to cinnamon-buff pores, clavate cystidia and oblong-ellipsoid basidiospores measured as 3.1–3.8 × 1.7–2 μm. 

Type.— CHINA. Hainan Prov.: Qiongzhong County, Limushan Nat. Res., on rotten angiosperm wood, 30 May 2015, Dai 15205 (holotype in BJFC!).

Etymology.— Albomellea (Lat.) refers to the white to cinnamon-buff pore surface.

[Botany • 2015] A Revision of Chuniophoenix (Arecaceae), Palm from China and Vietnam

Abstract

A revision of the Asian palm genus Chuniophoenix is given based on study of 22 herbarium specimens of wild origin from A, BH, FIPI, HN, IBSC, K, LE, MO, NY, and P. Three species are recognized, including a new one, Chuniophoenix suoitienensis.

Chuniophoenix suoitienensis Henderson, sp. nov. (Figs. 4 & 5). 

Chuniophoenix suoitienensis differs from C. hainanensis in its 6–7 (versus 20–28) leaf segments and homogeneous (versus ruminate) endosperm, and from C. nana in its larger size and leaf sheaths split below the petiole to give a central cleft, and winged along the proximal margins. 

Type:— VIETNAM. Khanh Hoa: Dien Khanh District, Suoi Tien, 12.203N, 109.027E, ca. 50 m, 4 July 2010, A. Henderson & Bui Van Thanh 3659 (holotype, HN!; isotype NY!).

Distribution and habitat:— Southern Vietnam (Khanh Hoa) (Fig. 2) in disturbed forest along steep, rocky river margins at ca. 50 m elevation. 

Taxonomic notes:— Chuniophoenix suoitienensis appears to be dioecious. Based on notes made at the time of collection of the type specimen, inflorescences of presumed staminate plants have shorter peduncles to 10 cm long, elongate rachises, and 10–11 rachillae, these to 18 cm long. Presumed pistillate plants have longer peduncles 30–40 cm long, shorter rachises, and 3–4 rachillae, these to 15 cm long.

[Botany • 2009] Hoya persicinicoronaria • a new species (Apocynaceae) from Hainan, China



ABSTRACT
The new species Hoya persicinicoronaria S. Y. He & P. T. Li (Apocynaceae, Asclepiadoideae) is described and illustrated from Hainan, China. The morphology of the related species H. pottsii Traill and H. liangii Tsiang are compared to the new species, which differs in its indumentum, leaf arrangement, leaflet pattern, leaf shape, apex, and size, calyx shape, and corolla color.

[Botany • 2009] Hoya bawanglingensis • a new species of Hoya (Apocynaceae) from Hainan, China



ABSTRACT
A new species, Hoya bawanglingensis S. Y. He & P. T. Li (Apocynaceae, Asclepiadoideae), is described and illustrated from Hainan, China. The morphological characters of H. bawanglingensis and the related species H. pottsii Traill are compared. Hoya bawanglingensis differs in the pubescence of its young stems, both leaf surfaces, petioles, peduncles, pedicels, outer calyx lobes, and follicles. The corolla lobes are white with purple spots, and the corona is white with a purplish center.

Hoya baishaensis S.Y. He & P.T. Li sp. nova (Apocynaceae) from Hainan, China is described and illustrated. The morphological characteristics of H. baishaensis and the fairly similar H. griffithii and H. radicalis are compared. Hoya baishaensis differs in its leaf shape, pedicel, calyx and corolla color.

[Botany • 2010] Heterostemma pingtaoi • new Heterostemma species (Apocynaceae, Asclepiadoideae) from Hainan, China



ABSTRACT
Heterostemma pingtaoi S. Y. He & J. Y. Lin (Apocynaceae, Asclepiadoideae) is described from Hainan Province, China. The new species is morphologically similar to H. oblongifolium Costantin in its leaf blade with an acute apex and rounded base. In comparison, H. pingtaoi differs from H. oblongifolium in its pubescent petioles (vs. glabrous), the leaves only to 7.3 cm long (vs. 7.5–14 cm), the five calyx glands (vs. 10), and the corolla externally
pubescent and yellow-green with mauve pubescence (vs. green and glabrous).
