[Botany • 2016] Chresta filicifolia (Asteraceae: Vernonieae) • A New Species endemic to the Mata Atlântica Domain, Brazil

Abstract
Chresta filicifolia is described and illustrated. It is a perennial herb known only from open vegetation on top of small rock outcrops at the Rio Doce Valley in Eastern Minas Gerais, Southeastern Brazil. This is the first record of a species of Chresta endemic to a phytogeographic domain other than the Cerrado and Caatinga, since those outcrops are included in the Mata Atlântica Domain (Atlantic Forest). The new species is closely related to C. harleyi and C. hatschbachii, but differs from these by its leaves, which are larger and more deeply lobed than those of the other two species, and also by its florets and cypselae, which are both larger in Chresta filicifolia. Moreover, the two other species are allopatric from C. filicifolia, being restricted to the Caatinga Domain. The southernmost distribution of C. harleyi lies more than 500 km away from the locality where the new species is found, making this discovery unexpected, and raising interesting biogeographical questions, which are briefly addressed here.

Etymology:—The epithet filicifolia refers to the leaves of this species, which are deeply lobed and reminiscent of those of a fern.

[Crustacea • 2016] Kingsleya attenboroughi • A New and Endangered Species of Kingsleya Ortmann, 1897 (Decapoda: Brachyura: Pseudothelphusidae) from Ceará, northeastern Brazil

Abstract
A new species of freshwater crab, Kingsleya attenboroughi n. sp., from the Arajara district, Ceará state, Brazil, is described and illustrated. The new species differs from congeners by having a short apical plate in the first gonopod, with anteriorly directed lobes and proximally angular; proximal lobe of the apical plate with conspicuous semicircular protuberance in mesial and sternal views; marginal process protruded, projecting mesially in sternal view and subquadrate in mesial view; and field of apical spines narrow, tapering distally, with small spines concentrated proximally. Opportunity is taken to illustrate K. gustavoi Magalhães, 2005, the closest allied species of K. attenboroughi n. sp. A key for the species of Kingsleya Ortmann, 1897 is provided.

[Herpetology • 2016] Reconciling Molecular Phylogeny, Morphological Divergence and Classification of Madagascan Narrow-mouthed Frogs (Amphibia: Microhylidae)

• A new phylogeny of Cophylinae provides strong support for previous genus-level relationships.

Abstract
A recent study clarified several aspects of microhylid phylogeny by combining DNA sequences from Sanger sequencing and anchored phylogenomics, although numerous aspects of tree topology proved highly susceptible to data partition and chosen model. Although the phylogenetic results of the study were in conflict with previous studies, the authors made several changes to the taxonomy of Madagascar’s cophyline microhylids. We re-analysed part of their data together with our own molecular and morphological data. Based on a supermatrix of 11 loci, we propose a new phylogeny of the Cophylinae, and discuss it in the context of a newly generated osteological dataset. We found several sample misidentifications, partially explaining their deviant results, and propose to resurrect the genera Platypelis and Stumpffia from the synonymy of Cophyla and Rhombophryne, respectively. We provide support for the previous genus-level taxonomy of this subfamily, and erect a new genusAnilany gen. nov., in order to eliminate paraphyly of Stumpffia and to account for the osteological differences observed among these groups. Deep nodes in our phylogeny remain poorly supported, and future works will certainly refine our classification, but we are confident that these will not produce large-scale rearrangements.

[Botany • 2016] Wuacanthus microdontus • A New Chinese Endemic Genus segregated from Justicia (Acanthaceae)

Abstract
A new genus, Wuacanthus Y.F. Deng, N.H. Xia & H. Peng (Acanthaceae), is described from the Hengduan Mountains, China. Wuacanthus is based on Wuacanthus microdontus (W.W.Sm.) Y.F. Deng, N.H. Xia & H. Peng, originally published in Justicia and then moved to Mananthes. The new genus is characterized by its shrub habit, strongly 2-lipped corolla, the 2-lobed upper lip, 3-lobed lower lip, 2 stamens, bithecous anthers, parallel thecae with two spurs at the base, 2 ovules in each locule, and the 4-seeded capsule. Phylogenetic analyses show that the new genus belongs to the Pseuderanthemum lineage in tribe Justicieae. Wuacanthus is closely related to Pseuderanthemum but differs from the latter by its shorter corolla tube and two minute spurs at the base of each anther-theca. W. microdontus is assessed with the status EN B2ab (iii) based on the IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria.

[Ichthyology • 2016] Hyphessobrycon wadaiA Name for the ‘Blueberry Tetra’, An Aquarium Trade popular Species of Hyphessobrycon Durbin (Characiformes: Characidae) from Amazon Basin, Brazil

Abstract
A new species of Hyphessobrycon is described from a tributary of the upper Rio Tapajós, Amazon basin, Mato Grosso, Brazil. Its exuberant colour in life, with blue to purple body and red fins, is appreciated in the aquarium trade. Characters to diagnose the new species from all congeners are the presence of a single humeral blotch, absence of a distinct caudal-peduncle blotch, absence of a well-defined dark mid-lateral stripe on body, the presence of 16–18 branched anal-fin rays, nine branched dorsal-fin rays and six branched pelvic-fin rays. A brief comment on fish species descriptions solely based on aquarium material and its consequence for conservation policies is provided.

Etymology — The specific name, wadai, is a patronym that honours Luiz Wada, ornamental fish breeder and enthusiastic aquarist, in recognition of his help in many scientific researches with fishes.

[Botany • 2016] Didymocarpus anningensis (Gesneriaceae) • A New Species from Yunnan, China

Abstract
A new species of Gesneriaceae, Didymocarpus anningensis, is described and illustrated from Anning, Central Yunnan, China. The new species resembles D. purpureobracteatus and D. yunnanensis, but it can be easily distinguished by a combination of stem, leaf blade and leaf petiole indumentum characters, bract and calyx shape and number of staminodes.

[Botany • 2016] Behuria mestrealvarensis (Melastomataceae) • A New Species on an inselberg in Espírito Santo, Brazil

Abstract
Behuria mestrealvarensis (Melastomataceae) from the state of Espírito Santo, Brazil, is described, illustrated and compared with B. capixaba, the species most similar to it. Behuria mestrealvarensis differs from B. capixaba by the glabrous petioles and hypanthia, by the solitary flowers or these in simple or compound triads up to 7 flowers, elliptic bracteoles almost the same size of the pedicel and hypanthium, sepals with eciliate margins and ovary apex with trichomes up to 0.5 mm. It occurs in a single locality, on an isolated, ca. 800m elev. inselberg. Due to its restricted occupancy area, fragmented landscape and poor habitat quality, this species must be considered as Critically Endangered according to IUCN criteria.

Abstract
Diplycosia platyphylla P.W.Fritsch, a new species from Mindanao Island, Philippines, is described and illustrated. This species is most similar to the Bornean D. urceolata but differs by its green or slightly flushed pink petioles 4–7 mm long, wider leaf blades, acute calyx lobe apices, and lavender mature fruiting calyx. The new species is known only from a single collection made from Mount Apo in North Cotabato Province, southern Mindanao.

[Botany • 2016] Lysimachia kraduengensis (Primulaceae) • A New Species from northeastern Thailand

Abstract
A new species of Primulaceae from Thailand, Lysimachia kraduengensis, is described and illustrated. It is morphologically similar to L. engleri, L. lancifolia, L. laxa and L. sikokiana in having solitary and axillary flowers, a yellow corolla, relatively long pedicels and basifixed anthers. The new species can be distinguished by the combination of its height, leaf texture, petiole, calyx and anther length, and brown coloration on the flowers. In addition, the conservation status, an updated key to Lysimachia species in Thailand, and discussion of the systematic placement of the new species based on the trnL-F marker of chloroplast DNA are provided.

[Entomology • 2016] Psaironeura angeloi • A New Species of Damselfly (Zygoptera: Coenagrionidae) from Central and South America

Abstract
Psaironeura angeloi sp. nov. (Holotype male deposited in FSCA: ECUADOR, Esmeraldas Province, small stream 5.6 km NW of Lita, 00.893°N 78.510°W, 4.II.1997, KJT leg.) is described and illustrated based on specimens from Ecuador, Panama, Costa Rica, and Nicaragua, bringing the total number of species in the genus to five. The new species is closely related to P. remissa (Calvert), a Mexican/northern Central American species with broad, foliate male cerci, but is distinct in that the long flagella of the genital ligula lack a small sharp spine unique to P. remissa, labrum and clypeus are orange-red, and the back of the head is mostly pale in both males and females. In life, the eyes of the new species are bright red in males versus green and black in P. remissa.

[Botany • 2016] Iris koyuncui (Iridaceae, sect. Scorpiris) • A New Species from Hakkâri Province, Turkey

Abstract
Iris koyuncui, a new species of subgenus Scorpiris, is described and illustrated from Hakkâri Province, Turkey. From the morphological point of view, Iris koyuncui appears to be similar to Iris pseudocaucasica Grossh., but from which it differs in several morphological features including plant height, leaf size/number and flower colour/size. A comprehensive description of this species is provided, including detailed illustrations and photographs, geographical distribution, habitat and ecology, vernacular name and IUCN conservation status.

Eponymy:—The new species is named after my dear teacher the Turkish botanist Prof. Dr. Mehmet Koyuncu, anexpert on bulbous plants.

Vernacular name: Iris koyuncui is called “Belalêzik” in Kurdish by the local people of Hakkâri Province.

Abstract
We describe a new kukri snakeOligodon condaoensis sp. nov., from Con Dao Islands, southern Vietnam based on the morphological characters of four specimens. It differs from other congeners by a combination of the following characters: medium size in adults (total length up to 552 mm); 17–17–15 dorsal scale rows; deeply forked hemipenes without spines and papillae, extending to subcaudal 13 or 14; 11–13 maxillary teeth, the posterior three being enlarged; cloacal plate undivided; head scalation complete; nasal divided; presubocular absent; 168–176 ventrals; 33–37 subcaudals; overall dorsal coloration dark gray, faint body stripes present or absent; and ventral coloration cream to dark gray without rectangular blotches. We also provide a list of 43 species of amphibians and terrestrial reptiles recorded from Con Dao Islands.

 Etymology. The specific epithet condaoensis is derived from Con Dao Islands, where the new species was discovered.

The novel species Laccaria rubroalba is described from Southwestern China by using both morphological characteristics and molecular data. It is characterized by small basidiomata; reddish white pileus when moist or young, white to pale when dry; 4-spored basidia and globose to broadly ellipsoid, hyaline, moderately echinulate basidiospores. Phylogenetic relationships inferred from ITS sequence data confirmed the separation of this new species from other closely related species in the genus Laccaria. The new species is compared with similar taxa. A description, line drawings and colour photographs of the new species, and phylogenetic tree to show the placement of the new species are provided.

Abstract
Ceropegia nampyana, a new species of Apocynaceae from the southern Western Ghats, is described and illustrated. The new species is morphologically allied to Ceropegia spiralis Hook.f. & Thomson, but differs by having corolla lobes shorter than the tube, corolla tube glabrous within and hairy outer corona. The new taxon belongs to Ceropegia Ser. Attenuatae.

 Ceropegia nampyana is close to Cspiralis Wight but differs by having corolla lobes shorter than the tube, corolla tube glabrous within, hairy outer corona as opposed to corolla lobes as long as corolla tube, bulbous based conical trichomes present within tube, glabrous outer corona in C. spiralis. 

Etymology: This species is named in honour of Professor Santhosh Nampy, Department of Botany, University of Calicut, Kerala, for his valuable contribution to the field of Angiosperm taxonomy, who guided the first author to the field of taxonomical research.

Abstract
After molecular and morphological analyses, the taxon septentrionicolus Page & Treadaway, 2013 is shown to be a distinct species, and Graphium adonarensis (Rothschild, 1896) is placed as conspecific with Graphium sarpedon (Linnaeus, 1758). Graphium huangshanensis Wu & Ma, 2016 syn. nov. is synonymised with G. septentrionicolus.
