[Entomology • 2025] Pulchricranae mirabilis • A New fascinating Genus of Subfamily Hemiacridinae (Orthoptera: Acrididae) from Thailand

Pulchricranae mirabilis
Dawwrueng, Storozhenko, Waengsothorn & Suwannapoom, 2025

Abstract
A new genus Pulchricranae gen. nov. (type species: P. mirabilis sp. nov.) is described from grassland in Sakaerat Environmental Research Station in Nakhon Ratchasima Province, Thailand. This genus is similar to the genera Binaluacris Willemse and Bacuita Strand from Philippines by the presence of outer apical spines on hind tibiae; by tegmina abbreviated; by prosternal spine flattened; by lophi of epiphallus large, trapezium with rounded apex; and by basal and apical penis valves separated, without any sclerotized flexure. However, Pulchricranae gen. nov. differs from Binaluacris by fastigium of vertex with rounded margins; by tegmina shorter and slightly broader; by prosternal spine in male with broadly rounded apex, in female apex with rounded triangular notch in median part; by mesosternal lobe broader than long; by male cerci conical, much narrower near apical part. New genus also differed from Bacuita (known by females only) by female fastigium of vertex strongly short and broad; tegmen broader, with apex rounded; hind femur surpassing the apex of abdomen; subgenital plate with apex nearly truncate. The previously ungrouped genera of the subfamily Catantopinae, Binaluacris and Bacuita, are transferred to the tribe Cranaeini of the subfamily Hemiacridinae based on external morphology and male genitalia. The composition of the tribe Cranaeini is briefly discussed.

[Entomology • 2025] Tenasserimacris punctata • A New Genus of Grasshoppers (Orthoptera: Acrididae: Spathosterninae) from Thailand

 Tenasserimacris punctata
Dawwrueng, Storozhenko & Vitheepradit, 2025

Abstract
A new genus of Spathosterninae, Tenasserimacris gen. nov. (type species: T. punctata sp. nov.), was discovered and described from a lower montane forest in Tenasserim Mountain Range of western Thailand, Khao Krajom in Ratchaburi Province. Clearly, this genus is similar to Beybienkoacris Storozhenko in the presence of parallel veinlets on the radial area of tegmina. However, this new genus differs from the latter in the temporal foveolae in both sexes, shape of ventral genicular lobe of hind femur in female, shape of furculae on 10th abdominal tergite in male, shape of valves of cingulum and apical valves of penis, shape of epiphallus, and shape of female subgenital plate. Additionally, tribe Tristrini is transferred from subfamily Tropidopolinae to Spathosterninae. Lastly, the composition and distribution of subfamily Spathosterninae are briefly discussed.

 Zhengitettix binduseni
Dawwrueng & Vitheepradit, 2024

Abstract
Four species of the genus Zhengitettix Liang, 1994 from Thailand are listed. A new distribution of Z. albitarsus Storozhenko, 2013 is reported from Ratchaburi Province in the Tenasserim Range with a coloration description of live specimens. Zhengitettix binduseni sp. nov. is described from Ratchaburi Province, Thailand. This new species is easily distinguished from other member in this genus by the larger body size, the fastigium of vertex between eyes distinctly narrower toward end, the slender and long spines of lower part of lateral lobe of pronotum which slightly upward in male, and almost straight in female, and the shaped of female subgenital plate with shallow transversal creases. The updated key to all species occurring in Thailand is provided here.

Abstract
The genus Ultragryllacris was revised. All its species and subspecies, including U. jiaranaisakuli sp. nov., U. chandra sp. nov. from Western Thailand and U. intermediata sp. nov. from Northern Thailand are here described and redescribed. They are known from Thailand and China. The new species differs from all the other representatives of this genus mainly in different body coloration, shape of projection of male 9th abdominal tergite and sclerotized area of female subgenital plate. The following taxonomical changes are also proposed: U. pulchra alboclypeata Gorochov et Dawwrueng, 2015, U. p. nan Ingrisch, 2018 and U. p. rubricapitis Bin et Bian, 2021 are raised to species status (U. alboclypeata stat. nov., U. nan stat. nov. and U. rubricapitis stat. nov.) due to some characteristic structures in both male and female; U. triangula Ingrisch, 2018 is downgraded to subspecies of U. alboclypeata (U. a. triangula stat. nov.). Previously unknown male of U. a. alboclypeata and female of U. nan are described. A key to all known species is given.

Abstract
A new species of dune cricket in the family Schizodactylidae, Schizodactylus salweenensis sp. nov. is described from Salween River, Mae Hong Son Province, northwestern Thailand based on both males and females. The Schizodactylidae is recorded for the first time in Thailand. The new species is most similar to Schizodactylus tuberculatus Ander, 1938 and Schizodactylus burmanus Uvarov, 1935 in the morphology of male subgenital plate, but mainly differs in the shape of subgenital plate apex, and the spurs of hind tibiae. The type series was collected from sand dunes along the river. This cricket reaches adulthood during the rainy season.
