[Botany • 2020] Oreocharis jasminina (Gesneriaceae) • A New Species from mountain tops of Hainan Island, South China

Abstract
A new species of Gesneriaceae, Oreocharis jasminina S.J.Ling, F.Wen & M.X. Ren from Hainan Island, south China, is highlighted and described. The new species is distinguished by its actinomorphic corolla, narrow floral tube and ovate anthers hidden in the floral tube. The new species also showed clear geographic and altitudinal isolation from the three currently-recognised Oreocharis species on the Island. Molecular phylogenetic analysis, based on nuclear ITS1/2 and plastid trnL-trnF sequences, supported the delimitation of the new species, which forms a single lineage with all the other Oreocharis species from Hainan Island. The roles of geographic and floral isolation in the evolution of the new species and its affinities are discussed.

Diagnosis: Oreocharis jasminina has the closest phylogenetic relationship with O. dasyantha, O. dasyantha var. ferruginosa and O. flavida with very high support values, all being Hainan-endemic and monophyletic. O. jasminina can be easily distinguished from them by having: (1) a long and narrow floral tube (both O. dasyantha and O. dasyantha var. ferruginosa have conical floral tubes, O. flavida has campanulate-tubular floral tube); (2) yellow and actinomorphic corolla (both O. dasyantha and O. dasyantha var. ferruginosa are zygomorphic with orange-red to yellow corolla, O. flavida is actinomorphic with orange corolla); (3) didynamous stamens with ovate anthers hidden in the floral tube (both O. dasyantha and O. dasyantha var. ferruginosa have exposed didynamous stamens with ovate anthers, O. flavida has four equivalent stamens with horseshoe-shaped anthers included in the floral tube) (Table 1, Fig. 4).

Etymology: The specific epithet refers to the yellow and narrowly tubular corolla of this new species.

Vernacular name: 迎春花马铃苣苔 (Yíng Chūn Huā Mǎ Líng Jù Tái) is the Chinese name for Oreocharis jasminina, the first three characters meaning ‘winter jasmine’, indicating its similar floral syndromes to Jasminum nudiflorum Lindl. The last four characters are the Chinese name for Oreocharis.

ABSTRACT
Jasminum binhchauense, a new species of the family Oleaceae, is described and illustrated. The species was collected during 2022–2023 from Binh Chau-Phuoc Buu Nature Reserve, Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, southern Vietnam. The new species differs from its congeners in its branchlets, leaf blade, petioles and calyx. A taxonomic description, a table comparing morphological characters of the allied species, and illustrations, a color photo-plate are provided.

Abstract
The new species Chionanthus monteazulensis, from Minas Gerais State, Brazil, is here described and illustrated. It differs from somewhat similar C. fluminensis by the inflorescence size, two stamens (vs. four), the smaller and orbicular or wide-elliptic blades, and the smaller petals and fruits.

[Botany • 2020] Jasminum parceflorum (Oleaceae) • A New Species from southern Yunnan, China

Abstract
Jasminum parceflorum (Oleaceae), a new species from tropical limestone habitats in Yunnan, China, is described and illustrated here. The new species is similar to J. pierreanum and J. rarum, but can be distinguished by its linear calyx lobes, dry calyces without ridges, terminal 1 (or 3)-flowered cymes and axillary solitary flowers.

Jasminum parceflorum Kai Zhang & D.X. Zhang, sp. nov.
Diagnosis: Jasminum parceflorum is morphologically similar to J. pierreanum Gagnep. and J. rarum Kerr, but can be distinguished by its linear calyx lobes, dry calyces without ridges, terminal 1 (or 3)-flowered cymes and axillary solitary flowers.
Distribution and habitat: Jasminum parceflorum is currently found in Mengla County and Jinghong City, Xishuangbanna Prefecture, Yunnan Province, China (Fig. 3). It grows in tropical evergreen forests on slopes of limestone mountains, never occurring in open areas such as mountain ridges and forest edges.
Etymology: The specific epithet is derived from the fact that its mature individual has fewer flowers in comparison with most other jasmine species.

[Botany • 2018] Jasminum ledangense • One New Species and Two New Records of Jasminum (Oleaceae) in Peninsular Malaysia

ABSTRACT
 Jasminum ledangense Kiew is a new species restricted to Gunung Ledang, Johor and Jasminum carissoides Kerr and J. nervosum Lour. are new records for Malaysia. Jasminum carissoides is restricted to limestone in Kedah (Langkawi) and Perlis and also occurs in Peninsular Thailand, while a narrow-leaved form of J. nervosum is found on limestone in Kedah (Langkawi). Jasminum insularum Kerr is confirmed as a distinct species. It is extremely rare and known from just three specimens, the type from Peninsular Thailand, one from Kelantan and another from Pahang in Malaysia. Descriptions are provided for these species.

Jasminum ledangense Kiew, sp. nov.

 In its narrowly lanceolate leaves with a pair of veins from the base and forming a submarginal vein with an additional 3–4 lateral veins in the upper half, in the filiform calyx teeth and star-like flowers, it resembles Jasminum nervosum but it is different in its coriaceous leaves (not membranous as in J. nervosum), 3 times longer than wide (not 2.5 times longer than wide), longer petioles 0.5–1 cm long (not 0.2–0.5 cm long), obscure venation except for the midrib prominent beneath (not conspicuous but plane above and beneath), pedicels 6–20 mm long (not 2–5 mm long), corolla tube 2–2.5 times longer than the lobes (not 3–3.5 times longer) with lobes 1.5–2 mm wide (not 2.5–3 mm wide) and fruit lobes 11–12 × 7–8 mm (not c. 6 × 4 mm).

Distribution. Endemic in Peninsular Malaysia, known only from Gunung Ledang, Johor (formerly known as Mt Ophir, Malacca). 

Ecology. Primary hill or montane forest, from 375 m to the summit at 1140 m elevation. Gunung Ledang is a well-collected mountain peak and the fact that only four collections have been made in the last 120 years indicates that it is a very rare species. 

Etymology. Referring to its only known locality, Gunung Ledang, Johor, Peninsular Malaysia.
