Abstract
Chaetolepis is a small genus composed of 11 species of shrubs and herbs mostly from Neotropical mountainous areas. As a product of the revision of the Melastomataceae family for the project on Bogotá’s flora, we described a new species of the genus including illustrations and mapping, and we established its differences with morphologically close species.

Diagnosis. Chaetolepis sumapacensis is characterized by upright herbs, glabrous internodes and leaves, abaxial blade leaf with glandular dots, and inflorescence axes with long-stalked gland trichomes. It closely resembles Chaetolepis thymifolia, but it differs, in addition to the previous characters, in the absence of elongated slightly roughened trichomes, and the stamen and ovary are bigger. It also closely resembles Chaetolepis anisandra, but differs in the smaller petals and stamens, 3-18 flowered inflorescences (vs. 1 flowered in C. anisandra), and suborbicular with rounded apex petals (vs. obovate and obtuse apex).
