Abstract
Five new species of Methocha Latreille, 1804 are described from Hong Kong: two species based on females only, Methocha haaksek Barthélémy & Terayama sp. nov. and Methocha leleji Barthélémy & Terayama sp. nov.; two on males only, M. wilsoni Barthélémy & Terayama sp. nov. and M. zetetes Barthélémy & Terayama sp. nov.; and one with females and males associated through molecular analysis, M. hongkongensis Barthélémy & Terayama sp. nov. A key to species and a phylogenetic tree of Methocha occurring in the Hong Kong SAR are provided.

Abstract
Four new species of the genus Araeopteron Hampson, 1893 are described: A. maculas sp. nov., A. simaoensis sp. nov., A. submedogensis sp. nov., and A. kononenkoi sp. nov., and A. xanthopis (Hampson, 1907) is reported for the first time from China. The new species are diagnosed based on the adult habitus and genitalia, and compared with related species. Meanwhile, the genitalia of A. xanthopis are illustrated and described for the first time in this study.

Abstract 
Thailand is located at the crossroads of several biogeographical regions, and boasts a high level of biodiversity, especially among the malacofauna. The most recent checklist of land snail species in Thailand was compiled more than twenty years ago, and so this checklist needs revision and the addition of newly discovered taxa. This study updates the taxonomy and species list of the operculated land snail family Pupinidae from Thailand. This snail family is diverse and abundant, and can be found in various natural habitats in Southeast Asia. Although the taxonomy of some Southeast Asian pupinid genera has been reviewed, studies of Pupina Vignard, 1829, which contains the highest number of species, and a lesser-known genus Pupinella Gray, 1850 are still lacking. Herein we present an annotated checklist with an up-to-date systematic framework of the Pupinidae in Thailand based on both field investigations and literature surveys, and include the taxonomic treatment of all Pupina and Pupinella species from mainland Southeast Asia.
This annotated checklist contains 30 nominal species and two subspecies from seven genera currently known to occur in Thailand. We describe two species of Pseudopomatias (Pseudopomatias doiangkhangensis Jirapatrasilp, sp. nov. and P. pallgergelyi Jirapatrasilp, sp. nov.), five species and one subspecies of Pupina (Pupina bensoni Jirapatrasilp, sp. nov., P. bilabiata Jirapatrasilp, sp. nov.P. godwinausteni Jirapatrasilp, sp. nov., P. latisulci Jirapatrasilp, sp. nov., P. stoliczkai Jirapatrasilp, sp. nov., and P. dorri isanensis Jirapatrasilp, ssp. nov.) as new to science. New records of Coptocheilus sumatranus, Pupinella mansuyi, and Rhaphaulus tonkinensis are also reported from Thailand. The mainland Southeast Asian Pupina species are classified into three species groups (Pupina artata group, Pupina arula group, and Pupina aureola group) based on the distinction of shell teeth and canals, and operculum. Three species formerly in Pupina from Vietnam are allocated to Pupinella (P. illustris comb. nov.P. sonlaensis comb. nov., and P. thaitranbaii comb. nov.) due to the presence of a funnel-like anterior canal.

ABSTRACT  
Pseudobuliminus (Eupulmonata: Camaenidae) has traditionally been delimited to exclusively contain species with conoidal shells, but questions regarding its monophyly have remained. Extensive morphometric analyses conducted on almost all Pseudobuliminus species from China indicate that possessing a conoidal shell alone is not a sufficient character to establish genus membership. It was previously shown that Pseudobuliminus species from Shandong Province lack a dart sac and possess a flagellum. We found the same reproductive characteristics in additional species from eastern and northern China, such as P. buliminoides from Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, and Pseudobuliminus beijingensis n. sp., described herein from Fangshan, Beijing Province. In contrast, species from western China differ from this configuration by having a dart sac but lacking a flagellum. Based on partial sequences of the mitochondrial 16S rRNA and the nuclear spacer ITS2, our molecular phylogeny demonstrates that the species from eastern and northern China form a clade. We conclude that the combination of lack of a dart sac and presence of a flagellum is a morphological synapomorphy shared by the members of this taxonomic lineage.

Pseudobuliminus beijingensis n. sp.

Distribution: Only known from the type locality, Bejing.

Etymology: The name is after Beijing, capital of the P.R. China.

Remarks: This species resembles Pseudobuliminus piligerus, P. buliminus buliminus and P. conoidius from western China. P. piligerusP. buliminus and P. beijingensis n. sp. do not cluster together in molecular phylogeny, highlighting the homoplasy in shell shapes.

[Entomology • 2025] World checklist of the Genus Lipolexis Förster (Hymenoptera: Braconidae: Aphidiinae) with Description of Lipolexis khaoyaiensis, A New Species from Thailand

Abstract
We describe and illustrate a new species of the aphidiine braconid genus Lipolexis Förster, Lipolexis khaoyaiensis sp. nov., from Thailand, using an integrative approach. Morphologically, the new species is similar to L. peregrinus Tomanović and Kocić, 2020, but molecular analysis showed clear separation of at least 27 independent Lipolexis lineages, only eight of which correspond to previously known species, plus the one which represents the new species described here. A molecular phylogeny based on all available barcodes support that the genus comprises two well supported clades, with L. khaoyaiensis sp. nov. being recovered in the gracilis species-group with strong support (100% ultrafast bootstrap). A modified section of the identification key to species of Lipolexis is added to include the new species. Reported host associations for each of the described species as well as a distribution map of all records of species plus provenances of all barcoded specimens is provided.

[Entomology • 2025] Psilocladia indica • A New Species of Genus Psilocladia Warren (Lepidoptera: Geometridae: Ennominae) from India, bridging the boundaries of Africa and Asia

Abstract
In the present manuscript, we describe a new species i.e., Psilocladia indica M. Singh, Lenka & N. Singh, sp. nov., from India and diagnose with its close congeners based on wing pattern and genitalia. Psilocladia indica sp. nov. is the fifth species of the genus. This study also reports Psilocladia Warren, 1898, a genus hitherto known only from Africa, for the first time from Asia. Psilocladia is closely similar to an African genus, Xenimpia Warren, 1895 and an Oriental genus Krananda Moore, 1868. The diagnostic attributes are explained and illustrated herein. Additionally, global checklist and identification key to all the species of the Psilocladia are provided.

New Moth Species Discovered in India, Bridging Gap Between Africa and Asia
Researchers from the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) have identified a previously undescribed species of the genus Psilocladia while studying geometrid moth collections from the Eastern Ghats and Eastern Himalayas. Psilocladia was previously believed to be restricted to central and southern Africa, making this discovery a significant biogeographical breakthrough.

[Entomology • 2024] Family-level Diversity of Coleoptera (Insecta) from the Nanling Mountains and the Greater Bay Area, China

Abstract
Coleoptera comprise 198 families and over 440,000 species to date, of which 143 families and over 35,000 species are known in China. Of these, only 64 families have been recorded in Guangdong Province, fewer than in Hong Kong. To investigate the insect diversity of Guangdong, numerous specimens were collected from the Nanling Mountains and the Greater Bay Area using various methods, and over 200,000 specimens of Coleoptera were assigned to families. Thus, a preliminary study of beetles at the family-level in Guangdong is carried out based on the examined specimens and historical records. An updated checklist of beetle families in Guangdong increases the number of families from 64 to 111, in which Eupsilobiidae is recorded for the first time in China and a new species, Eidoreus haizhuensis sp. nov. is described here, demonstrating the importance of persistent collecting with different methods for the study of insect diversity. Habitus images of most of the beetle families occurring in Guangdong are provided. And the updated records are compared in detail with the published records, showing that more families may potentially be found in Guangdong, requiring further field work and taxonomists working on niche groups.

Additionally, two species i.e., L. (T.) kaikarisi Saldaitis et al., 2019 and L. (T.) persephone Saldaitis et al., 2020 are reported for the first time from India. An updated checklist of 117 species (including the nominotypical subspecies) and 10 subspecies of Lemyra is provided with 48 species (including the new records and new species described herein) from India. Of the 48 species from India, the systematics of 42 species is provided based on their voucher specimens. We could not study the rest of the six species with their voucher specimens. The detailed diagnoses with closely similar congeners, genitalia illustrations, distributions, individual variations and sexual dimorphism, if any, and bionomics is provided.

[Botany • 2021] Lippia raoniana (Verbenaceae) • Checklist and A New Species of Lippia from the Diamantina Plateau, Minas Gerais, Brazil

Abstract
The Diamantina Plateau is located in the central region of the Espinhaço Range, in the State of Minas Gerais, which is dominated by campo rupestre formations. We describe a new species of Lippia L., endemic to the Diamantina Plateau, and provide an annotated checklist and identification key for the 17 species of the genus occurring in the area. Lippia raoniana P.H.Cardoso & Salimena sp. nov. is mainly distinguished by its ovate leaves with adaxial and abaxial surfaces densely covered by sessile glandular trichomes, and drupaceous fruits with two pyrenes. It is known only from two populations, and thus can be provisionally considered as Critically Endangered. Details on the species’ ecology, as well as a comparison with morphologically similar species, a distribution map, and field photographs, are provided. In this work, we also present pictures of the 17 species in their habitats, and we hope that these illustrations will help in the identification and conservation of these taxa.

Diagnosis: The new species is similar to Lippia spiraeastrum (Mart. & Schauer) T.R.S.Silva, but differs by ovate leaves (vs oblong or oblong-elliptic), slightly discolorous (vs strongly discolorous), matte adaxial surface (vs shiny), glandular abaxial surface (vs tomentose-glandular), shorter peduncle (0.8‒1.3 vs 3.2‒10.5 cm long) and slender (vs thick), ovate bracts (vs lanceolate). 

Etymology: The specific epithet is in homage to Raoni Metuktire, an important indigenous leader of Brazil, internationally known as a symbol of environmental preservation. Raoni is dedicated to the fight for the rights of native indigenous people and conservation of the tropical forest, mainly Amazonia. His legacy is a symbol of the daily struggle for Brazilian biodiversity, constantly threatened.

Abstract
The identity of Striaria californica Cook, described in 1899 from a single female, is established on the basis of additional specimens collected by Cook in 1929 and determined to be that species by Loomis (1936) as well as specimens from the San Francisco Bay region, likely to be from near the original collection locality. We propose Amplaria californica (Cook, 1899) new combinationA new genus, Bayaria Shear & Marek n. gen., is established for Striaria nana Loomis, 1936 Bayaria nana (Loomis, 1936) new combinationStriaria carmela Chamberlin, 1947, is a junior synonym of Bayaria nana. Abstract
In this study, Aegus occidentalis Pathomwattananurak & Jiaranaisakul, new species is described from Tenasserim Range, western Thailand. Its habitus and genitalia are illustrated and compared with its closest relatives for both sexes. A checklist of the species of Aegus Macleay, 1819 (Coleoptera: Lucanidae: Lucaninae: Aegini) from Thailand is provided, which includes three new country records: Aegus babai Nagai, 1994, A. insignis Nagel, 1941 and A. laticollis Arrow, 1943. Additionally, a new junior synonym, Aegus chelifer Macleay, 1819 = Aegus chelifer crassodontus Bomans, 1992 new synonym, is proposed. Distribution maps of Aegus species in Thailand are also provided.

[Botany • 2024] Checklist of the Genus Ridsdalea (Rubiaceae: Gardenieae) in Vietnam with Description of the New Species Ridsdalea backanensis

  Abstract
The paper provides an identification key and an annotated list of all six species of the genus Ridsdalea J.T.Pereira & K.M.Wong (Rubiaceae, Gardenieae) recorded in the flora of Vietnam, along with data on their valid names, synonyms, types, and distribution. A new species, R. backanensis, discovered in the limestone area of Bac Kan Province (northern Vietnam), is described and illustrated. Detailed data on its characters, ecology, distribution, phenology, preliminary IUCN conservation status, and taxonomical notes are given. The newly discovered species is potentially interesting for cultivation as an ornamental tree that may be effectively used in garden and urban green architecture.

Diagnosis: Ridsdalea backanensis differs from R. daweishanensis mainly in the smaller leaves, 7–11 cm long (vs. leaves 10–14 cm long in R. daweishanensis), the 1–3-flowered inflorescence (vs. inflorescences uniflorous), the much shorter pedicels, 3.5–7 mm long (vs. pedicels 20–25 mm long), the shorter subulate calyx lobes, 6.5–11 mm long (vs. calyx lobes narrowly oblanceolate, 14–16 mm long), the corolla outside sparsely hairy (vs. corolla outside glabrous), and the oblanceolate anthers, 2–3 mm wide (vs. anthers linear, about 1.5 mm wide).

Etymology: The species is named after the area of origin (Bac Kan Province, northeastern Vietnam).
