[Diplopoda • 2026] Enghoffosoma chiangmaiense, E. minutum, E. chanabunae • Integrative Taxonomy of the Millipede Genus Enghoffosoma Golovatch, 1993 (Polydesmida: Paradoxosomatidae) in Thailand and Myanmar, with Descriptions of Three New Species

Abstract
Although comprehensive studies on the Southeast Asian flat-backed millipede genus Enghoffosoma Golovatch, 1993 in Thailand have begun quite recently, in 2014, continuous field surveys have since revealed a steadily increasing species diversity. Based on extensive new material collected from Thailand and Myanmar, three new species are described using an integrative taxonomic approach that combines morphological characters and mitochondrial COI DNA barcoding: Enghoffosoma chiangmaiense Srisonchai & Likhitrakarn sp. n. from northern Thailand, Enghoffosoma minutum Srisonchai & Likhitrakarn sp. n. from northeastern Thailand, and Enghoffosoma chanabunae Srisonchai & Likhitrakarn sp. n. from the Tanintharyi Region, southern Myanmar. COI sequence comparisons, available for E. chanabunae Srisonchai & Likhitrakarn sp. n. and E. chiangmaiense Srisonchai & Likhitrakarn sp. n., reveal significant interspecific genetic divergences (K2P distances) from their congeners, ranging from 13.53–16.75% and 13.53–18.14%, respectively. While DNA data were unavailable for E. minutum Srisonchai & Likhitrakarn sp. n., its distinctive morphological characters, particularly the gonopod structure, clearly support its status as a new species. To provide a clear morphological baseline for comparison, the type species, Enghoffosoma spinipleurum (Carl, 1941), from Myanmar, originally described as Sundanina spinipleura Carl, 1941, is redescribed and illustrated in detail based on the lectotype. With these additions, the genus Enghoffosoma now comprises 21 valid species, confirming its status as a highly diverse and widespread diplopod lineage in the Indochinese region. An updated identification key to all known species and a distribution map are provided.

[Mollusca • 2026] Sundadontina panhaiDiscover before they Disappear: A New freshwater mussel Species in the Genus Sundadontina (Unionidae: Gonideinae: Pseudodontini) from the remote headwaters of the Chi River, Mekong Basin, northeastern Thailand

Abstract
The Mekong River basin is a globally recognized freshwater biodiversity hotspot.  The most species-rich radiation of freshwater mussels in this basin belongs to the tribe Pseudodontini. This group contains numerous local endemic species that prefer small river and stream habitats with fast currents, rocky or gravel substrates, and clean water. Here, we describe Sundadontina panhai Nahok, C. Tumpeesuwan & S. Tumpeesuwan, sp. nov., a new species within this unique tribe. This species was discovered in remote tributaries of the Upper Chi River drainage, northeastern Thailand. Its taxonomic status was evaluated using an integrative approach, combining an analysis of shell morphology and mtDNA phylogeny (based on COI and 16S rRNA gene sequences). The new species differs from its congeners by a combination of unique conchological characteristics, including an elongate-ovate shell without a prominent wing, an unprojected umbo, a yellowish to dark brown periostracum, and a clearly protruding, triangular pseudocardinal tooth. All Sundadontina species are phylogenetically well-separated from each other in the mtDNA phylogeny, exhibiting a corrected COI p-distance of 2.5–16.1%. Our findings highlight that remote tributaries of the Mekong River still house undescribed endemic lineages of freshwater mussels, which are on the brink of extinction due to habitat degradation, rapid deforestation, river damming, irrigation and drainage projects, and other anthropogenic activities.

Diagnosis. The shell is elongate-ovate, rather thick. The umbo is not prominent, the posterior margin is somewhat biangular, without a prominent wing. The periostracum is yellowish to dark brown, sometimes with a copper-colored tint on the posterior margin; the nacre is whitish and shining. The pseudocardinal tooth is clearly protruding and triangular. The anterior adductor muscle scar is elliptical and distinctly deep, whereas the posterior adductor muscle scar is rounded and shallower. 

Etymology. The specific epithet 'panhai' is named in honor of Professor Dr. Somsak Panha, the esteemed mentor of the sixth and last authors, recognizing his pioneering leadership in the taxonomic research of land snails and freshwater bivalves in Thailand.

[Herpetology • 2026] Feihyla wenshanensis & F. zhaotongensis • Two New Species of the Genus Feihyla (Anura: Rhacophoridae) previously confused with F. fuhua from Yunnan, China

Abstract
Two new species of the genus Feihyla from Yunnan Province, China, are described based on morphological and molecular evidence. The two new species closely resemble F. fuhua and F. palpebralis, but they can be distinguished from the latter two species and from each other by a combination of morphometric characteristics and coloration: head length being greater than head width, interorbital distance being smaller than eye diameter, and toes being approximately one fourth webbed in the two new species, nostril being closer to eye than to snout tip, internasal distance being greater than interorbital distance, tibiotarsal articulation reaching anterior corner of eye, and a pair of dark inverted bracket shaped pattern presenting on dorsum in the first new species from Wenshan Prefecture, and nostril closer to snout tip than to eye, internasal distance being smaller than interorbital distance, tibiotarsal articulation reaching center of eye, and a dark X-shaped pattern presenting on dorsum in the second new species from Zhaotong City. In the phylogenetic analysis, the two new species formed two distinct clades closely related to F. fuhua and F. palpebralis, and the genetic distances among them and F. fuhua and F. palpebralis ranged from 3.7% to 12.5% in the 16S ribosomal RNA gene.

[Herpetology • 2025] Nidirana cangshanensis • A New Species of the Genus Nidirana Dubois, 1992 (Anura: Ranidae) from Yunnan Province, Chin

Abstract
A new species of the genus Nidirana Dubois, 1992 is described from Cangshan Mountain, Dali Prefecture, Yunnan Province, China. The new species is morphologically most similar to N. pleuraden (Boulenger, 1904) and N. occidentalis Lyu, Yang & Wang, 2020, but it can be distinct from the latter two species by having a relatively shorter and wider head, relatively larger eyes, relatively smaller tympana, relatively much shorter foot, and a much greater difference in body size between males and females. Phylogenetically, the new species differs from its congeners by a genetic divergence of 2.6–8.6% and 6.1–14.1% in 16S and COI genes, respectively. This study further emphasizes that the diversity of the genus Nidirana is still severely underestimated.

Nidirana cangshanensis sp. nov.

Diagnosis. Body size medium, SVL 43.6–52.1 mm in adult males and 59.7–64.1 mm in adult females; head relatively short, HDL/SVL 0.34–0.36; head length approximately equal to head width, HDL/HDW 0.99–1.05; eye relatively large, ED/HDL 0.29–0.33; tympanum relatively small, TD/HDL 0.17–0.20, TD/ED 0.52–0.71; tip of every digit not dilated; lateroventral groove absent on every digit; foot short, FTL/SVL 0.52–0.57; tibio-tarsal articulation reaching between tympanum and eye or at eye; heels just meeting; posterior of dorsal skin rough with tubercles; a pair of subgular vocal sacs in breeding males; single nuptial pad present on first finger in adult males; suprabrachial gland large and smooth.

Etymology. The specific name cangshanensis refers to the type locality Cangshan Mountain, in Dali Prefecture, Yunnan Province, China. We suggest the English common name to be “Cangshan Mountain Music Frog” and the Chinese common name to be “苍山琴蛙 (Pinyin: cāng shān qín wā)”.

Abstract
A new species of the genus Perigrapha Lederer, 1857, Perigrapha belyalovi Volynkin & Titov, sp. n. is described from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. The diagnostic comparison is made with the sympatric Perigrapha centralasiae Bartel, 1906 and the allopatric Perigrapha heidi Hreblay, 1996. Adults as well as male and female genitalia of all three species are illustrated.

Abstract

A new remarkable buthid scorpionLeiurus nigellus sp. nov., was discovered in Al Ula Governorate, north of Al Madinah Al Monawwarah Province, Saudi Arabia. The new species is described, fully illustrated, and compared with other species of the genus Leiurus reported from the Arabian Peninsula. Notes on its habitats are provided.

[Entomology • 2021] Rhyacophila siparantum (Trichoptera: Rhyacophilidae) • A New Species of the R. philopotamoides Species Group from the Republic of Kosovo with Molecular and Ecological Notes

 Abstract
In this study we describe Rhyacophila siparantum sp. nov., a new species of the Rhyacophila philopotamoides species group from the Bjeshkët e Nemuna Mountains in Kosovo, based on morphological (male adults) and molecular (sequencing of the barcode region of the cytochrome c oxidase subunit I gene (COI)) characteristics. The new species is morphologically closest to Rhyacophila schmidinarica Urbanič, Krušnik & Malicky, 2000, and also closely resembling Rhyacophila hirticornis McLachlan, 1879. R. siparantum sp. nov. differs from both its most similar congeners primarily by the shape of the segment X, which is in lateral view short apically and with a pronounced lateral hump on the posterior edge. This difference, combined with other characters related to the shape of the second segment of inferior appendages, spine pattern of parameres and size of ventral teeth on segments VI and VII, make R. siparantum sp. nov. easily distinguishable from both most similar congeners. Phylogenetic and taxonomic relationships were reconstructed using two methods of phylogenetic inference, and two species delimitation methods. All this supports Rhyacophila siparantum sp. nov. as a distinct taxon.

The adults of Rhyacophila siparantum sp. nov. were found during the period May – August, nearby a small rheocrene spring inside a forested area. The new species is most probably a microendemic of the Bjeshkët e Nemuna, a mountainous massive known for several other endemic species of caddisflies. Rhyacophila siparantum sp. nov. is the seventeenth known species of the genus Rhyacophila Pictet, 1834 from Kosovo.

Abstract
The article describes a new species, Aethalopteryx strohlei Yakovlev sp. nov. (Lepidoptera, Cossidae, Zeuzerinae) from the Debub Omo Zone of the Southern Nations, Nationalities and People's Region of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.

Diagnosis. It is necessary to note that the representatives of the genus Aethalopteryx have very simple genitalia, so it is not possible to make diagnostic distinctions basing on the male genital morphology. However, the species of the genus have significant external features: the size and color of the wings. The new species clearly differs from most species of the genus in the small size, and in this characteristic it is close to the East-African species group distributed in Somali and Kenia: A. steniptera (Hampson, 1916), A. simillima (Hampson, 1916), A. elf Yakovlev, 2011, and A. sulaki Yakovlev, 2011. But the dark, contrast color of the wings and the big round spot between veins CuA2 and CuP (postdiscally) are its clear distinction from the close small East-African species.
 
Distribution. Known only from South-Western Ethiopia (Debub Omo Zone of the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and People's Region). 

Etymology. The new species is named after my colleague and friend Mr. Manfred Ströhle (Weiden), a remarkable connoisseur of the Palearctic and African Lepidoptera, the collector of the type series of the new species.
