[Botany • 2026] Primula chongqingensis (Primulaceae) • A New Species from Chongqing, China

Abstract
Primula chongqingensis K.Liang & S.R.Yi, sp. nov.a new species of Primula sect. Ranunculoides from Chongqing, China, is described. The new species is currently known only from Qianjiang District, where it grows on wet moss-covered rock faces and dripping cliffs beside streams and below waterfalls in shaded valley woodland. It is most similar to P. ranunculoides in overall morphology, but differs by its smaller leaves with markedly fewer lateral segments, stable long-homostylous flowers, pedicels and calyces covered with short glandular hairs, and a relatively short calyx less than half as long as the corolla tube, usually reaching ca. one third of it. Filiform propagative shoots with apical bulblets are only occasionally produced in P. chongqingensis, whereas similar structures are consistently and abundantly produced in P. ranunculoides. These combined vegetative and reproductive differences support its recognition as a distinct species rather than an infraspecific taxon of P. ranunculoides. A morphological description, distribution information, provisional conservation assessment, a diagnostic comparison with P. ranunculoides, and a key to the species of Primula sect. Ranunculoides are provided.

[Botany • 2026] Primula xingyiensis (Primulaceae) • A New Species from Guizhou, China

Abstract
Primula xingyiensis Z.K.Wu & C.Y.Deng, a new species of Primulaceae from Guizhou, China, is described and illustrated. Morphological evidence places P. xingyiensis within Primula sect. Carolinella, a section characterised by plants completely efarinose but bearing pubescent or glandular hairs; leaf base cordate to rounded, rarely broadly cuneate, with distinct petioles; calyx campanulate or narrowly campanulate, longer than its diameter, split to 1/3–1/2 of its length; and capsule oblong, dehiscing nearly calyptrate at maturity. The new species is distinguished by its gracile habit, shortened stem, small leaves with long villous hairs on both surfaces, long-styled homostylous flowers, and a corolla that is 7–8 times as long as the calyx. Information on the distribution, morphological comparisons with closely related species, and the conservation status of the new species is also provided, along with a key to the known species of Primula sect. Carolinella.

Abstract
Primula maershanensis J.L.Gu & Z.K.Wu, a new species of Primulaceae from Sichuan, China, is described and illustrated. Morphological evidence supports the placement of P. maershanensis within Primula sect. Auganthus, a section characterized by leaves that are shallowly to deeply lobed and covered with hairs and by a distinctively broad calyx with a flattened base. The new species is distinguished from other species in this section by its short rhizome and nearly fleshy roots; subpurple petioles and scapes; leaf blade suborbicular, wider than long, margin palmately 5–9-lobed to the middle of the blade; and a bright yellow corolla associated with long-homostylous flowers. Information on the distribution, morphological comparisons with closely related species, and the conservation status of the new species is also provided, along with a key to the known species of Primula sect. Auganthus.

Diagnosis. The new species is most similar to P. sinensis, P. rupestris, and P. jiangyouensis in sharing leaves and stems covered with hairs, lobed leaf blades, distinctly petiolate leaves, and a distinctively broad and flat-bottomed calyx. However, it is distinguished from the latter three mainly by several morphological features: a short rhizome and nearly fleshy roots; subpurple petioles and scapes; leaf blade suborbicular, wider than long, palmately 5–9-lobed to approximately 1/2 of its blade, long-homostylous flowers with a bright yellow corolla (Figs 1, 2). For a more accurate delimitation of all known species in this section, we observed living plants and captured their photographs, in addition to examining herbarium specimens of the other seven species within this section (Figs 3, 4). The main morphological distinctions between P. maershanensis and P. jiangyouensis, P. sinensis, and P. rupestris are summarized in Table 1.

[Botany • 2021] Dionysia jamzadiae (Primulaceae) • A New Species from the Fars Province of Iran

ABSTRACT
Dionysia jamzadiae Lidén, M.Irvine, Alvén & Mehregan, from the east Zagros Mountains, Fars, Iran, is described as new to science. It belongs in section Dionysiopsis and is similar to D. oreodoxa Bornm. but differs in, for example, its sparsely glandular hairy or almost glabrous corolla with emarginated lobes (densely non-glandular pubescent with entire lobes in D. oreodoxa). Dionysia jamzadiae is known from two places and is quite abundant at the type locality.

[Botany • 2026] Sadiria kachinensis (Primulaceae: Myrsinoideae) • A New Species from Myanmar

Abstract
Sadiria kachinensis from Kachin State, Myanmar is described and illustrated as a species new to science. It is morphologically similar to S. boweri and S. solanifolia but differs in several characters especially the smaller leaves on the vegetative shoots and the flowering branches, larger inflorescences and petals, and smaller sepals. In addition, this new species is compared to S. eugeniifolia var. burmanica, the only other member of Sadiria in Myanmar.

Sadiria kachinensis Utteridge & Nob.Tanaka, sp. nov. 

 Recognised in the genus Sadiria by the leaves (ortho- and plagiotropic) drying greenish and the shorter plagiotropic reproductive branches, and unique amongst those species in the combination of the following characters: 3–4 leaves in pseudowhorls along the erect (orthotropic) stems, these orthotropic leaves, elliptic and 9.5–13 × 3.5–4.5 cm; the lateral plagiotropic (reproductive) flower-bearing branches (4–)6.5–11 cm long, with 3(–5) leaves along the length of the branch; orthotropic and reproductive shoots leaves drying green; pendulous inflorescences sessile or with a very short rachis to 2 mm long; the corolla fused for approximately three-quarters of its length; stamens with anthers 2 mm long; and the style conspicuously exserted at anthesis and extending ca. 3 mm beyond the apex of the corolla lobes.

Abstract
Primula himalayana sp. nov., a new species of Primulaceae, is described and illustrated from Tawang, Lutrem, 4238 m a.s.l., Arunachal Pradesh, India. It grows under Juniperus and Berberis scrub forest in an alpine meadow. The new species belong in Primula section Cordifoliae and is resembling P. gambeliana, but differs from the latter by the lamina puberulent with a white protuberance on the tips of the teeth, petiole 2‒3 times longer than lamina and white puberulent, scape long with many flowers, flowers yellow with orange-yellow center and along corolla tube, corolla lobes elliptic, anther basifixed, and ovary cylindrical without any teeth.

Diagnosis: A new species resembling P. gambelina due the appearance of leaves and flowers, but differing in lamina puberulent with a white protuberance on the tip of each teeth (versus glabrous and without any protuberances), petiole 2‒3 times longer than lamina and white-puberulent (versus 3‒5 times longer than lamina, glabrous), scape 15‒35 cm long with 4‒17 flowers in the umbel (versus 6‒15 cm long with 2‒8 flowers), flowers yellow with an orange-yellow center and ca 1.5‒1.9 cm long corolla tube (versus bright reddish-pink or purple-pink to violet-purple with yellow center, ca 1.2 cm long), corolla lobes elliptic (versus obcordate or broadly obovate), anthers basifixed (versus dorsi-basifixed), ovary quadrate–globose without any teeth (versus globose–cylindric with 5 or more apical teeth).

Etymology: The species epithet ‘himalayana' is derived from the Great Himalaya Mountains – a biodiversity hotspot and widely considered as the geographical origin as well as the centre of diversity and distribution of Primula.

[Botany • 2026] Primula daguanensis (Primulaceae) • A New Species from Yunnan, China

Abstract
Primula daguanensis W.B.Ju, B.Xu & J.Ru is described and illustrated as a new species from Daguan County, Yunnan Province, China. It is assigned to the Primula sect. Petiolares subsect. Davidii based on its conspicuous bud scales, which are membranous and persistent at anthesis, and its coriaceous, efarinose leaves. Molecular phylogenetic analysis based on the nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer (nrITS) shows it to be closely related to P. tridentifera of subsect. Petiolares, and morphological comparisons support its recognition as a distinct new species. It resembles P. epilosa, P. tridentifera, and P. bergenioides but can be distinguished by the following characters: petiole 1.0–4.5 cm long; leaves efarinose and obovate to oblanceolate, with undulate-dentate margins; abaxial reticulate veins inconspicuous, lateral veins 5–7 pairs; calyx parted to one-third, with broadly triangular lobes; and corolla lobes truncate at the apex, dentate, and bearing an annulus. P. daguanensis is currently known only from the collection locality, and its conservation status is assessed as Data Deficient (DD) according to the IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria.

DiagnosisPrimula daguanensis is morphologically similar to P. epilosa, P. tridentifera, and P. bergenioides in having a stout rhizome, membranous bud scales persistent at thesis, and a similar leaf outline (Fig. 3), but differs by a combination of characters: leaves efarinose, with undulate-dentate margins; adaxial surface smooth; abaxial reticulate veins inconspicuous; lateral veins 5–7 pairs; petiole 1.0–4.5 cm long; calyx parted to one-third of its length, with broadly triangular lobes; corolla bears an annulus, with lobes truncate at apex and dentate.

Abstract
Lysimachia yulongensis Z.K.Wu & Ming Y.Sheng, a new species of Primulaceae from Yunnan, China, is described and illustrated. Morphological evidence places L. yulongensis within Lysimachia sect. Pumilae, which is distinguished by dwarf plants with prostrate or nearly erect habits, few flowers clustered at the stem apex or solitary in the leaf axils near the apex, lanceolate sepals, elliptical and dorsifixed anthers and styles approximately as long as the stamens. The new species is characterised by a strongly stoloniferous growth habit, with creeping stems serving a vegetative function as stolon and terminating in leaf rosettes during fruiting; leaves that are narrowly elliptic to oblanceolate or spatulate; and flowers solitary in the leaf axils along obliquely ascending stems. Information on the distribution, phenology and conservation status of the new species is also provided.

Diagnosis. The new species exhibits a floral morphology similar to that of Lysimachia prolifera and L. pumila, characterised by dwarf plants with creeping or nearly erect habits, few flowers clustered at the stem apex or solitary in leaf axils, lanceolate sepals, elliptical and dorsifixed anthers. However, it can be distinguished from these two species by several morphological features: a strongly stoloniferous growth habit, with creeping stems serving a vegetative function as stolon and terminating in a leaf rosette during fruiting; narrowly elliptic to oblanceolate or spatulate leaves; and flowers solitary in leaf axils along obliquely ascending stems.

Etymology. The specific epithet of the new species is taken from the Chinese Pinyin ”Yulong”, the name of the mountain in north-western Yunnan, China, where the type specimen was collected (Map 1).

[Botany • 2026] Lysimachia longiracemosa (Primulaceae: Lysimachieae) • A New frutescent herb from Yunnan, China

Abstract
Lysimachia longiracemosa, a new species of Primulaceae, is described from the margin of highland subtropical broad-leaved forests in southeastern Yunnan, China. Based on morphological evidence, the new species is placed in Lysimachia subgenus Idiophyton and diagnosed against its closest congener, L. nutantiflora. A revised key is also provided to distinguish L. longiracemosa from the related frutescent species with racemose inflorescences of the Lysimachia subgenus Idiophyton.

Lysimachia longiracemosa Y.H.Tan & Z.X.Ma, sp. nov.  

Diagnosis: Lysimachia longiracemosa is morphologically similar to L. nutantiflora, but differs in having unwinged stems (vs winged stems), basally branched racemes that often develop the lowest branch into a paniculate unit and extend horizontally, smaller lanceolate bracts with the lowest 0.2–0.4 × 1.0–1.8 cm that abruptly reduce upward to nearly indistinct narrowly lanceolate to subulate bracts ca. 0.4 × 0.2 mm (vs. leaflike, elliptic to lanceolate, lowest bracts ca. 2.8 × 1.5 cm, gradually reduced upward to ca. 4 × 1.5 mm), and calyx medium green (vs. dark purple).

[Botany • 2025] Primula lepcha (Primulaceae) • A New Species from Sikkim Himalaya, India

Abstract
Primula lepcha, a new species from Naga valley, North-Sikkim is described and illustrated. The new species closely resembles with P. bhutanica, P. whitei, and P. bracteosa, but it differs markedly in several floral and vegetative characters, including its efarinose nature of plant, the presence of both homostylous and heterostylous floral conditions, shorter scape, distinct bract shape and length, irregular calyx margins, ex-annulate corolla, and smaller stamens in both pin and thrum flowers. A detailed description, information on distribution and phenology, a comparative table, and colour photographs of its natural habitat are also provided.

Abstract
A new species, Lysimachia speciosa, from western Hubei Province, Central China, is described and illustrated. The species is morphologically similar to L. deltoidea, especially var. cinerascens, but mainly differs from the latter by the recurved pubescence on the stem, petiole, and pedicel; the rhombic-ovate or ovate-lanceolate leaf blade; the longer petiole, calyx, corolla, stamens, and style; the erose lobes of the corolla; and the hairy ovary and capsule.

Diagnosis. Lysimachia speciosa is most similar to L. deltoidea var. cinerascens and L. grammica in having cespitose and ascending-erect stems, densely multicellular hairs on the plant, both opposite and alternate leaves, and solitary and axillary yellow flowers, but the new species can be easily distinguished from both by its recurved-pubescent indumentum on stems, petioles, and pedicels; shorter than subtending leaves pedicels; much longer calyx, corolla, filaments, and style; and pilose ovary and capsule. ...

Etymology. Lysimachia speciosa is a perennial herb with an attractive plant type and numerous cespitose, ascending-erect stems. Besides, the stem and petiole of the new species sometimes are flushed red. The flowers are yellow and showy. Thus, the specific epithet is derived from the aforementioned morphological characteristics.

Abstract
Lysimachia nanshanensis, a new species of Lysimachia ser. Paridiformes discovered in Nanshan National Park of southwest Hunan, China, is described and illustrated. Morphologically, this new species most closely resembles L. sciadantha in having whorled leaves and terminal umbels but differs from L. sciadantha by having terminal umbels without a peduncle, subpapery leaves with obvious black glandular punctation and striation, longer pedicels, and filaments that are nearly free. Results of molecular phylogenetic analysis, based on nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer (nrITS) and two chloroplast DNA fragments (matK and rbcL) of 34 Lysimachia species, showed that L. nanshanensis is closely related to L. sciadantha. According to the IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria, the new species is assigned to the Vulnerable (VU D1) category.

Diagnosis. Lysimachia nanshanensis belongs to ser. Paridiformes F.H.Chen & C.M.Hu (Chen and Hu 1979: 36) and is similar to L. sciadantha C.Y. Wu (Wu 1965: 53) by sharing some morphological characters, such as the middle and lower leaves bract-like and opposite, upper leaves clustering at the stem top, flowers densely on umbel. But differs from L. sciadantha in leaves 4–6 (vs. 4) in a whorl, subpapery (vs. stiffly papery), elliptic, ovate to obovate (vs. elliptic), apex obtuse to mucronate (vs. acute to short acuminate), umbels terminal without peduncle (vs. peduncle 1.8–6 cm long), pedicel 3–6 cm (vs. 1.2–2.5) long, filaments almost free (vs. base tube 3–3.5 mm).

Etymology. The specific epithet ‘nanshanensis’ refers to the type locality where the new species was found, Nanshan National Park, Southwest Hunan. The Chinese name is “南山落地梅 (nán shān luò dì méi)”.

Abstract
A new species Primula indica is found from Mayodiya paas area of Dibang Valley of Arunachal Pradesh is described and illustrated. It resembles to Primula vilmoriniana Petitm. which is belonging to the section Obconicolisteri but, differs in having small petiole, few flowered, calyx large, homostylous (vs. heterostylous), pedicel small, corolla lobe broadly obovate and quite large, corolla tube large, style large 8 mm (vs. small ca. 4 mm). The new species is preliminarily assigned as Data Deficient (DD) following the IUCN (2022) guidelines.

Abstract
Primula jiangyouensis J.L.Gu & Z.K.Wu, a new species of Primulaceae from Sichuan, China, is described and illustrated. Morphological evidence supports P. jiangyouensis as a member of P. sect. Auganthus, which is characterized by shallowly to deeply lobed leaves covered with hairs, and distinctively broad and flat-bottomed calyx. The new species is characterized by its branched and stout rhizomes usually up to 40 cm, yellow corollas with a distinct fan-shaped reddish-brown blotch at the base of lobes, and short glandular hair on aboveground parts. The distribution, morphological comparison with close related species and conservation status of the new species, as well as a key to the species of Primula sect. Auganthus, are also provided.

Diagnosis. The new species is most similar to P. sinensis, P. rupestris, and P. xingshanensis, sharing hairs that covered the leaves and stems, lobed leaf blade, distinctly petiole and distinctively broad and flat-bottomed calyx. However, the new species is distinguished from the latter three mainly by its branched and stout rhizomes usually up to 40 cm, yellow corollas with a distinct fan-shaped reddish-brown blotch at the base of lobes, and short glandular hair on aboveground parts (Figs 1–4). The main morphological distinctions between P. jiangyouensis, P. sinensis, P. rupestris, and P. xingshanensis are summarized in Table 1.

 Abstract 
Lysimachia brevicaulis Y.H. Tan & D.L. Quan (Primulaceae) is described and illustrated as a new species from a limestone karst in Oudomxay Province, Laos. It is tentatively placed in the subgenus Idiophyton. The new species is morphologically close to L. verbascifolia but can be distinguished from it by its underdeveloped stem, smaller leaf blades, solitary flowers, villous calyx, abaxially reddish brown and puberulent corolla, shorter anthers and styles, and green fruits.
