Abstract
Three new Mitrephora species (Annonaceae), M. langsuanensis sp. nov., M. sirindhorniae sp. nov. and M. sukhothaiensis sp. nov., are described from Thailand. Mitrephora langsuanensis resembles M. macclurei, but its leaves have more secondary veins, and its flowers have more carpels, with yellow-and-pink striped outer petals with a margin that becomes undulate with age. Mitrephora sirindhorniae resembles M. tomentosa, but has larger sepals and petals, longer flowering pedicels, and shorter monocarp stipes, with monocarps that have a longitudinal ridge. Mitrephora sukhothaiensis is distinct from its Thai congeners in having outer petals that reflex at maturity and inner petals with a pair of appendages on the margin adaxially. The addition of these three new taxa raises the total number of Mitrephora species in Thailand to 14. An identification key for Thai species is provided.

Abstract
Phaeanthus piyae, a new species from southern Thailand, is described and illustrated. It is morphologically most similar to P. intermedius, which occurs in Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore, Riau Islands, and Sumatra. The new species can be distinguished from P. intermedius by the longer peduncles and pedicels; triangular (vs. filiform-narrowly triangular) sepals; and stigmas that are larger and ± elongated club-shaped (vs. ± ellipsoid). The conservation status of P. piyae is provisionally assessed. In addition, molecular phylogenetic analyses using up to seven plastid DNA regions (matK, ndhF, rbcL and ycf1 exons; trnL intron; psbA-trnH and trnL-trnF intergenic spacers) and including, among others, five Phaeanthus accessions are carried out. Phaeanthus piyae is sister to a clade composed of the remaining accessions of Phaeanthus. Furthermore, southern Thailand also harbors a second species of Phaeanthus, which appears to be P. lucidus, a heterotypic synonym of P. splendens. Phaeanthus lucidus is herein reinstated; it differs from the sister species P. splendens by possessing a lower number of stamens and carpels per flower, as well as dissimilar placentation. A key to the two species of Phaeanthus in Thailand is given.

[Botany • 2019] Mitrephora monocarpa (Annonaceae) พรหมพนม • A New Species from Surat Thani Province, Peninsular Thailand

in Saunders & Chalermglin, 2019.
พรหมพนม  ||  DOI:  10.3897/phytokeys.121.34271

Abstract
A new species, Mitrephora monocarpa R.M.K.Saunders & Chalermglin, sp. nov. (Annonaceae), is described from Surat Thani Province in Peninsular Thailand. It resembles two other species, M. alba Ridl. and M. keithii Ridl., with which it is broadly sympatric, but can be distinguished by its solitary flowers (not borne in thyrsoid inflorescences as in most other Mitrephora species), single carpel per flower (and hence single monocarp per fruit) and the lack of a monocarp stipe. A key to the nine Mitrephora species in Thailand is provided.

Keywords: Annonaceae, Mitrephora monocarpa, Thailand, new species

Mitrephora monocarpa R.M.K.Saunders & Chalermglin, sp. nov.

Diagnosis: A new species similar to M. alba and M. keithii, but distinguished by its solitary flowers that are not borne in an inflorescence, its single carpel per flower and single sessile monocarp per fruit.
....

Distribution and habitat: Mitrephora monocarpa is only known from the type collection cited above, from a tropical rain forest over limestone, ca. 250 m elevation.

Etymology: The specific epithet reflects the fact that the flower has only a single carpel and, hence, the fruit consists of a solitary monocarp.

Local name: Phrom Phanom (พรหมพนม).

Etymology. The species is dedicated to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej on his 84th anniversary in recognition of the great efforts he has made to conserve native plants in Thailand.

Distribution — Endemic to Loei Province, north-eastern Thailand. Known only from the type locality.

Ecology — In mixed deciduous forest, growing in a gully on a karst limestone mountain. Altitude 715 m. Flowering July-September; fruiting November-January.

[Botany • 2004] มหาพรหมราชินี | Mitrephora sirikitiae • a remarkable new species (Annonaceae) endemic to northern Thailand

มหาพรหมราชินี
Mitrephora sirikitiae
Weerasooriya, Chalermglin & R.M.K. Saunders

Abstract
A new species of Annonaceae, Mitrephora sirikitiae, is described from Mae Hong Son Province in northern Thailand. It is easily distinguished from the seven species of Mitrephora previously recorded from Thailand due to its very large, showy flowers. It is most similar to M. winitii, but differs in its larger flowers, with inner petals that become undulate at maturity. The profuse blooming of the new species and its large flowers with mild fragrance suggest that may be of significant horticultural potential.

ABSTRACT
The Flora of Thailand treatment in 1975 recognised eight genera and 13–16 species in Thailand. Morphological studies and research using DNA sequence data, including nuclear DNA, have shown that only one genus occurs in Thailand, Magnolia L. Since 1975 many more species have been found to occur in Thailand, both newly described taxa and new records. Thus a new treatment for Thailand is presented recognising 25 species in a single genus, Magnolia. Keys are given to flowering and fruiting material, and synonymy, descriptions and supporting information provided.
