Type-species: Myiothera indigotica Wied, 1831 [=Scytalopus indigoticus (Wied);
the syntypes, which are housed at the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH 5416 and 5417), New York, USA

Included taxa: Eleoscytalopus indigoticus (Wied) comb. nov.;
E. psychopompus (Teixeira and Carnevalli) comb. nov.

Etymology. Eleos, from the Greek heleos, meaning swamp, refers to swampy forests, the preferred habitat of E. indigoticus and E. psychopompus; Scytalopus refers to the genus in which these two species were long included. Gender masculine.
